Poor Performance by the Kids

The Gordon MacDonald Youth grade team put in a lacklustre effort against the Highlands and paid the price by going down 3 - 0.

The boys started slowly and with only ten minutes gone poor marking gave the opposition a half chance which they put away to take the lead. Kiama clawed there way back into the game but a lack of commitment by most of the team made it difficult to pressure the Highlands goal.

Strong tackling by Danny Pridham in midfield, Brad Tuohy in the centre of defence and sweeper Craig Lord tried to turn the game around. A break down the right side and a shot on goal by striker Craig Costello sparked the young Kiama team. This lead to a much greater share of possession and James Spence showed his skills as he tried to bring his teammates into the game but they couldn't find the goal.

A change at half time saw Pridham move to the defensive line and new signing Andy Hungerford take the pitch for his first game for a couple of seasons. This move gave the Kiama midfield a more creative look as Hungerford and Matt Gallagher started to take control. An injury to Chris Hughes saw him replaced by Ben Jones another midweek signing for the Quarriers. A strong run down the right side almost saw Jones score with only his second touch of the game. As it turned out this was typical of the game for the Kiama team and when the ball was hit to the other end of the field a hopeful lob into the centre of the field from the left was misjudged by keeper Dean Lee and an unmarked Highlands player knocked the ball in off his knee to take the score to 2 - 0.

Kiama reshuffled their line up and brought on Wade Mathews for the young Spence and pushed Lord into the midfield and Hungerford into the forward line but they still couldn't find a way through the opposition defence. Highlands scored a late goal to finish the game off and take the points. This was an extremely disappointing result for the Quarriers and they will need to improve if they want to get back on track and start winning again.
