QUARRIERS GIRLS DOWN TO KEMBLAWARRA.

Kiama Quarriers Ladies Soccer team had a disappointing 5 – 1 loss to Kemblawarra last Sunday at Barrack Heights Oval.  The win was all the more disappointing after the girls were left without any Reserves and had to battle with the bare eleven players and no Reserves.

The team fell into the same trap that it has done in recent weeks and started the game in slow motion.  While the girls are getting into the game their opponents have been starting a full pace and swamping the side in the first half.  This is exactly what Kemblawarra did and they led 3 – 0 at half time.  To make it worse two of the goals were very fluky affairs and the score line was not an indication of the way the match was being played.

In the second half the girls put a bit more into the game and were rewarded with a penalty to Hailey Beringer.  She calmly put it away for the team’s first goal this year in an official match but there should have been a lot more of them going into the net in this game.

The side played well in patches but have to learn to get stuck in from the starting whistle.  Best for the Lady Quarriers were Hailey Beringer and Lauren Richardson in the midfield while goalkeeper Mel Carlson also put up a brave front after playing the whole match with an injured hand.  The Kiama Leagues Club Player of the Match was full back Hannah Beattie.  Hannah was all over the park and put in a top effort.

Next weeks game against Shellharbour has been transferred from the Leisure Centre to Sid Walsh Oval, Jamberoo.  The girls kick off at 10.00am followed by another Ladies match.  The club is then holding a barbecue at the Jamberoo Hotel and a band is going to strum a few strings while the girls shake a leg.  Be there or be square.
