KIAMA GIRLS SOCCER BEATEN IN

BONNIE LASSIE CUP

The Kiama Quarriers Ladies Soccer team played their first ever game competition games last Sunday at Barrack Heights Reserve in the annual Bonnie Lassie Cup in front of an interested crowd.

The team has only been recently formed and had never played a full game until this season they had a good result last week in a trial game against Shellharbour.  In a top display the girls were beaten 3 – 2 against a good quality opponent.

In the Bonnie Lassie Cup the girls had to play three shortened games in the one afternoon and it was a shock to the system of some of the newer players.

The side was weakened before the matches kicked off with a number of girls being unavailable.  They went into the first match against South Coast United and played well before going down 2 – 0.

Their second match was against Helensburgh and the girls were beaten 3 – 0 after playing strongly.  They lost their last match 2 – 0 against the Dandaloo Hotel but had plenty of positives to build on after the games.

Nicole Petit was a standout for the local girls and played well in the midfield in all three games.  Michelle Richardson was also outstanding in goals and looks to be a good player of the future.

Under the circumstances these were good results for the girls after having so many of their squad unavailable.  They were also rocked last week when their coach resigned, a week before the season started, leaving the girls for a position with a local Men’s Youth Grade.  Soccer nut Larry Beringer has stepped into the role on a temporary basis to help the girls out.  If there is any body that wishes to apply to coach the girls for this season they are encouraged to contact the club on 42324099 for further information.

The girls have about seventeen players in training and are looking forward to a successful first season in the competition.
